Adoption, 25 years later

Dear reader,

Today it’s 25 years ago i arrived in the Netherlands.
Not by choice, but as chosen one.
Adoption: There are written a lot of books about it, but what’s exactly my story?
I’m not sure how many of you know the fact i’ve been adopted.

Adoption, 25 years later.

August 18, 1990 my parents went to Colombia.
After a trip of 24hrs? They arrived at Bogota and flew right away to Bucaramanga.
The place of the orphan house (and my place of birth) where we were waiting for our new future.
I was 1,5 years old and i’ve been adopted with my brother and sister.
Yes they are my real brother and sister.
We don’t look a like, but we’ve got the same genes and smile.
I think that’s the most precious thing i could ask for,
being adopted and have my biological sister and brother with me.
If it’s possible ofcourse, in several cases they are seperated and don’t know where they are.
It sounds even more special,
if i’m telling you it was not the plan that i would be here too in the first place.
My parents needed to sign for the amount of kids to adopt.
Their preference was max. 2. It’s ofcourse an huge change in their life.
So two is already a big thing!

They’ve got a proposal by the adoption agency and that was at first a shock for them.
Not 1, not 2, but 3 pictures came out of the envelop.
If it was an idea to adopt 3 kids,
because their siblings and if it was possible they needed to stick to each other.
Altough my bro and sis didn’t know they had a baby sister at the other departement.

Well, their answer is clear now, i’m here so 3 it is.

Now 25 years later, i’m well educated and have my own happy life.
The moment when i got adopted was the beginning of the luck in my life.
